Smile Makeovers

Before And After Photos

Susan had not seen a dentist for many years due to anxiety. Many of her teeth and gums were not healthy. Susan saw hygienists as well as Steve who were calm and patient with her. Gradually Susan’s dental health has been improved significantly. Many of the top teeth had a hopeless prognosis so these were replaced with aesthetic dentures. Susan was able to overcome her anxiety of going to the dentist, by seeing Steve, and never thought she could have these results. Susan is delighted she can now smile, speak and chew far better than she could before without any discomfort or embarrassment.

Hannah disliked the colour of some of her teeth and the gap between her front teeth. She saw Steve for a cosmetic consultation where they discussed all of her options and came to an agreement on what was most suitable for her. Hannah was even able to see a preview of what her teeth would look like with gap closed before treatment started. Hannah completed 2 weeks of home whitening. Steve then used cosmetic composite resin (white filling) to carefully close the gap and give an aesthetic result that Hannah loves.

Female patient ( performing arts professional dancer) -in her late twenties who was very self-conscious about her smile.  Crowding and misalignment were extremely severe.  Treatment involved upper and lower fixed labial appliances to align teeth and four premolar teeth were removed – it was impossible to align this case without creating space first! Ceramic brackets were used to improve appliance aesthetics and this patient was thrilled with her  beautiful results.

I would simply use the term “ ceramic brackets” which blend in with your teeth.

A good orthodontist can use any system/bracket to achieve the result so I choose my ceramic brackets based on their appearance (blending with the teeth), staining resistance and quality).

Teenage female patient – embarrassed by very prominent upper left canine and crowded dental arches – treated with  upper and lower fixed appliances. No teeth extracted and great result.

Used conventional metal straight wire brackets for this case. She wanted coloured modules ( rings) and wanted them to show!

Jo had always disliked her rather prominent upper front teeth. Working within the dental profession she was very keen to have her teeth aligned and fully understood the importance of looking after her teeth and braces. We decided to use Damon fixed braces ( Damon Clear in the upper arch and metal Damon Q in the lower). Jo was very keen to avoid any extractions to create space for alignment – instead we gently widened and increased the length of the dental arches and carefully developed enough space to align the teeth.

Jo has maintained her super results by wearing her retainers as advised and we are delighted with her results.

Vicki is in her 20’s and disliked the way her upper front teeth leaned backwards. In addition the lower front teeth were biting so tightly against the inner surface of the upper front teeth that dental enamel was being worn away. We corrected the angle of Vicki’s front teeth using Clarity Advanced brackets for the upper teeth and Victory series metal brackets in the lower arch. After around 18 months we achieved our aims of a comfortable safe bite and  beautiful dental alignment. Now Vicki has retainers bonded to her which don’t show as they are on the inside. Retainers are very important to keep this great result safe.

This young man (BD) was in his late twenties and wanted to improve the appearance of his prominent upper front teeth. The upper front teeth protruded over the lower front teeth by 10mm ( this value is normally 2-4mm). There were also spaces between the upper front teeth. All these factors are shown on the pre-treatment photograph.

We used upper and lower fixed orthodontic appliances to move the upper front teeth back and close the spaces between them. In addition all the upper and lower teeth were placed in to well aligned positions. This is all demonstrated in the post-treatment photos.

Treatment was completed in just under 12 months and was faster than expected. The excellent co-operation and appliance care given by BD was a very important factor in this successful outcome!

This had it’s may challenges due to the patient being less compliant with wearing the aligners midway through treatment.  The thing I really like about Invisalign is the complete control over all of the treatment prescription and the ability to tweak the treatment as much as you like at no additional cost until the patient is happy. This reflects the fee that comes with the patient’s using Invisalign. I find it is really important to have the ‘stern conversation’ with the patient as soon as you suspect any kind of non-compliance with treatment.

After this conversation she admitted to not wearing the aligners to prescription for about 10 days while she was on holiday.  Fortunately we were able to bring it back under control and achieve a straightened result we are both happy with. fixed wire retainers placed upper and lower 3-3 with clear retainer to go over the top. Now she just needs to whiten and the results will be great!

Catriona had orthodontic treatment when she was younger. She noticed her front teeth had become more crowded than before. Steve informed Catriona that this is something that occurs often, whether or not orthodontic treatment has been provided. The crowding would have continued to worsen had nothing been done about it. Invisalign was a great way to straighten Catriona’s teeth in just 7 months. Whitening (included with the Invisalign treatment) also helped to brighten the teeth too, while still keeping a natural appearance. At the end of Invislaign treatment Catriona actually felt like she was going to miss wearing the aligners because they became such a comfortable part of her routine!

Solomon knocked his front tooth playing football. Unfortunately, the tooth died. After root canal treatment to save the tooth Steve used a specific whitening technique to lighten this dark tooth.

Steve wanted to whiten the tooth a little more to make it perfect, but Solomon was already delighted with the results! Quite the improvement!

Emily had a wedding coming up and she wanted to improve her smile before her big day. She came to see Steve to see what could be done to improve her smile. Steve advised that using whitening trays for 2-3 weeks overnight would be a very good option to improve the appearance of her teeth. Emily was delighted with the results and could not believe her teeth could look so good so easily.

Hayley wanted to improve her smile by whitening her teeth. She also had an old filling on her front tooth which had been there for a very long time. This old filling would not change colour if Hayley whitened so they agreed that replacing it would be a good idea after whitening. Hayley completed some home whitening for 3 weeks. Steve then used cosmetic composite resin (white filling) to replace the old filling. Hayley is happy with the results.

Sarah was unhappy with the colour of her teeth and wanted to improve this. She came to Steve and he recommended that she carry out a home whitening overnight to improve the colour of her teeth. Sarah was able to whiten her teeth at home and control how white they would go by checking them in the mirror everyday. In 3 weeks Sarah was delighted with the results that something as simple as whitening could achieve. Sarah feels her ‘smile has been transformed’ and she ‘got the exact result she wanted’.

Zoe had a wedding coming up in Italy! She wanted to spruce her teeth up for the big day to have those wedding photos looking just perfect. Steve again recommended a specific type of home whitening overnight for Zoe. Zoe was able to achieve the results she wanted in as little as 2 weeks! Steve is happy with the results for Zoe creating the beautiful smile Zoe wanted for her big day.

Peter broke his front tooth in a very unfortunate accident. He came to see one of our dentists Steve as an emergency to try to fix his front tooth. Peter was very grateful that Steve was able to restore his front tooth that day. Steve used cosmetic composite resin (white filling) to achieve this result that blends in well with the other teeth.

Sophie had noticed her teeth get darker over the years and wanted them to be whiter and brighter. She came to see Steve who assessed her teeth and advised that home whitening would be the best option for her. Sophie completed 3 weeks of home whitening to get the whiter brighter teeth that she wanted. Sophie was ecstatic her son had helped her improve her smile and Steve was relieved he did not disappoint his mother!

Karen’s medical history unfortunately led to her having quite unhealthy teeth. Karen wanted her smile back and wanted it to be white and bright. There were many obstacles with regards to Karen’s health that made her care challenging. Karen and Steve worked together to produce the smile that Karen always wanted. Her grandchildren no longer make fun of her teeth which Karen is very happy about. Photographs courtesy of Dr Steve Conteh.

Gillian came to see Steve due to the short sharp pain she was getting on biting on her back tooth. It was preventing her from eating on that side of the mouth. Steve examined Gillian’s teeth and found the tooth causing the problem with some special tests. Steve diagnosed a crack in this tooth under the old filling. Steve advised that the treatment of choice for this particular tooth is an onlay (half crown). Steve restored this tooth with a strong ceramic onlay that protected this tooth and blended in very well with the other teeth. Gillians is now pain free and can now eat with confidence on the left side of her mouth again.
